How to See What ChatGPT and AI Assistants Say About Your Brand

October 24, 2026 · Lumeo Digital

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity for recommendations before they ever open Google. That means these tools are already forming an opinion about your business, and most owners have no idea what that opinion is. The good part is that you can check it yourself in an afternoon, with nothing more than the assistants themselves and a notepad.

Why this matters now

When someone asks an assistant who the best option is in their area, there is no list of ten blue links to scroll through. The assistant names a few businesses and moves on. If you are not one of them, you are simply invisible for that question, and you will not catch it in your analytics because no click ever happened. That is the part that makes AI visibility easy to miss: the losses are silent.

Start by asking the assistants directly

Open ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity, and ask the same things a customer would. Keep the wording natural, the way a real person types. You are checking three questions at once: do they mention you at all, are the facts about you correct, and who do they recommend instead.

Write down what they get wrong

Assistants pull from across the web and will confidently repeat information that is out of date. A wrong phone number, old hours, a service you dropped, or an address you moved from are all common. Note every mistake you see. These are the gaps you will close later, and a wrong detail in an AI answer is often the quiet difference between a booked job and a call that never came.

Look at where their answers come from

Perplexity and Google's AI answers show their sources, and ChatGPT shows them when it searches. Click through and see which pages the assistant trusts. You will usually find a pattern of your own site, a few directories, a review platform, maybe a news mention. Those pages are doing the work. If a competitor keeps appearing and you do not, compare what their trusted pages have that yours are missing.

Repeat it on a schedule

One check is only a snapshot. The answers shift as the models update and as the web around you changes. Run the same short list of questions once a month and keep the notes in one place. Over a few months you will see whether your visibility is climbing, slipping, or holding, and you will catch a bad answer long before it costs you a season of leads.

Turn what you find into action

Most of the fixes are not complicated. Correct the facts on your own website first, since that is the one source you fully control. Make sure your name, address, phone, and services read the same everywhere they appear online. Then fill the gaps the assistants revealed, whether that is a missing service page, thin answers to the questions customers actually ask, or a listing you never claimed. The businesses that show up well in AI answers are almost always the ones that made themselves easy to understand.

If tracking all of this sounds like a lot, it is the kind of work we handle for clients week to week. But you do not need us to begin. An hour with the four assistants and a notepad will tell you more about your AI visibility than any dashboard will.
